Ordinal Numbers

Os numerais ordinais indicam ordem:

1 st = first
2 nd = second
3 rd = third
4 th = fourth
5 th = fifth
6 th = sixth
7 th = seventh
8 th = eighth
9 th = ninth
10 th = tenth
11 th = eleventh
12 th = twelfth
13 th = thirteenth
14 th = fourteenth
15 th = fifteenth
16 th = sixteenth
17 th = seventeenth
18 th = eighteenth
19 th = nineteenth
20 th = twentieth
21 st = twenty-first
22 nd = twenty-second
23 rd = twenty-third
24 th = twenty-fourth
25 th = twenty-fifth
26 th = twenty-sixth
27 th = twenty-seventh
28 th = twenty-eighth
29 th = twenty-ninth
30 th = thirtieth
31 st = thirty-first
32 nd = thirty-second
33 rd = thirty-third
40 th = fortieth
50 th = fiftieth
60 th = sixtieth
70 th = seventieth
80 th = eightieth
90 th = ninetieth
100 th = one hundredth
101 st = one hundred and first
102 nd = one hundred and second

10,000 th = ten thousandth

Observações importantes:

1. Nas dezenas a partir do vinte, colocamos tie, seguido do th.

20 th = twentieth
30 th = thirtieth
40 th = fortieth
40 th = fortieth
50 th = fiftieth
60 th = sixtieth
70 th = seventieth
80 th = eightieth
90 th = ninetieth

2. Quando lemos ou escrevemos por extenso os números ordinais em Inglês, apenas o último algarismo vai para a forma ordinal:

29 th = twenty-ninth
23 rd = twenty-third
104 th = one hundred and fourth

3. Abreviações:
Formação:
número + duas ultimas letras da palavra.

E.x:

first (1) = 1st
second (2) = 2nd
third (3) = 3rd
twenty-eighth = 28th

4. Adicionamos o th após o hundred,thousand,million, para formarmos o ordinal.

one hundredth (centésimo) = 100th
one thousandth (milésimo) = 1,000th
one millionth (milionésimo) = 1,000,000th

5. Nos números ordinais acima de 100, o uso da conjunção and segue as mesmas regras dos cardinais:

205th – two hundred and fifth
440th – four hundred and fortieth
104 th = one hundred and fourth
1,002 nd = one thousand and second

6. Os numerais ordinais são colocados antes dos substantivos.
Ex.:
the First World War = a Primeira Guerra Mundial
the second chapter = o segundo capítulo
the ninth lesson = a nona lição

7. Os nomes dos soberanos são escritos em numeração romana. Quando lemos, usamos os numerais ordinais.
Ex.:
George IV ( George the Fourth ) = Jorge Quarto
Henry VIII (Henry the Eighth) = Henrique Oitavo
