Other (outro)

É usado para mostrar o sentido de “not the same“. (referindo ao segundo)

Como pronome adjetivo, é invariável,mas como pronome substantivo, pode ser pluralizado.

Como pronome adjetivo:

.É usado antes de um substantivo, sempre no singular.

E.g:

Put it in your other hand.

He has other brothers.

.

Como pronome substantivo:

.Varia em número e é usado no lugar do substantivo.

E.g:

Some came yesterday,others( ou some) will come tomorrow.

Put it in this hand, not in the other.

Some persons are happy, others are sad.

The others are not here.

1.Originalmente, other é o ordinal de two.

E.g:

Every other day ( em dias alternados, dia sim, dia não).

2.Quando usado adverbialmente, other corresponde a otherwise.

E.g:

He can’t d other than say yes.( Ele não pode senão dizer sim).

He couldn’t do it other other than hurriedly.(Ele não o pode fazer senão apressadamente).

3.Emprega-se também em expressões de tempo:

The other day ( Outro dia)

The other evening ( Outra noite)

The other week ( Outra semana)

Some day or other (Algum dia,um dia qualquer,qualquer dia desses)

Some other day ( Qualquer dia)

Como adjetivo ou substantivo,é usado sempre no singular.

a) Outro ( sentido: um outro, mais um)

E.g:

He had another cup of tea. (Ele tomou outra xícara de chá ( mais uma.))

Will you have another cup of tea?

b) Outro ( sentido : diferente)

E.g:

It is cold.I must put on another coat before going out.( Está frio.Preciso vestir um outro paletó antes de sair ( um paletó diferente).
