Conditional wish – wish – hope
.
Conditional wish
.
Present Wishes – a wish about the present (the unreal conditional)
Wish +(that) + subject + Past Tense
E.x:
I wish I had a car:travelling by train is so slow!
I wish I had more money (=but I haven’t)
I wish it weren’t raining right now. – (It’s raining right now.)
I wish the sun were shinning right now.
I wish I went to visit my friends.
She wishes she were beautiful (= but she’s not)
.
Pay attention!!
Uma coisa que precisamos prestar atenção: O verbo to be, na “condição irreal”,será sempre “were” independente do substantivo ou pronome.Veja:
I wish I were rich.
She wishes she were rich.
We wish we were rich.
.
Past Wishes – a wish about the past – (impossible conditional)
Wish + subject + Past Perfect

He wishes he hadn’t bought the car (= but he did buy it.)

.
Wish + could + past perfect – Modal Verbs

I wish you could have come to my party.
.
Future Wishes – a wish about the future (the real conditional)
Wish + subject + would/could + verb
